Top 10 of 2011

What a year 2011 has been!  I don't think there has ever been a year that has gone by so fast.  Looking back at last year, Eric and I decided to stay home for New Year's Eve.  He cooked dinner and I think we were in bed by 9 watching Dick Clark's Rocking New Years Eve.  At that time, we had no idea of the many great things to come in 2011.  Here is our top 10 of 2011!

10. Spent tons of time with friends-old friends a new friends
9. Eric completed his last 2 rotations at St. Luke's and St. John's
8. Celebrated many birthdays, weddings and even a baby shower with great friends and family- both my parents turned 50!
7. Enjoyed lots of trips to the lake, Austin, Lake Charles and Dallas
6. I was selected as Greene Elementary's Teacher of the Year
5. I graduated in May from UHCL with my Master's in Educational Management
4. I got a job as an assistant principal at Ward Elementary
3. Eric got a job at St. John's Sport's Medicine
2. Eric graduated in August from UTMB with his Doctorate in Physical Therapy
1. We started building our house!

What a year it has been! I have a weird thing about not liking odd numbered years as much as even years...I think 2011 may have changed my mind on that =) We are looking forward to the great things to come in 2012.  Hopefully you will have a great 2012 too!

Christmas 2011

It is hard to believe that the Christmas season has already come and gone.  November and December are my favorite times of year.  I love the fall/Thanksgiving time and the excitement of Christmas.  This Christmas was the first in a few years that my parents, Eric and I, and the Konesheck's were all home, in Katy, for Christmas.  Eric and I had a great few days celebrating with everyone and getting to spend time with family.

On Christmas Eve, Tegan and Cainan came over to my parents house.  We baked cupcakes and gave them their presents.  They are so cute and we all had a great time!  That afternoon, Eric, my parents and I went out to the Cy Fair area where they are building a house that is the same floor plan as ours.  It was our first time to see the actual floor plan...and we loved it even more!

Christmas Eve night, Eric and I went to church with Michael and Heather.  Tegan hugged on me for about half the service...melted my heart!  After church, we went to dinner with my parents and Eric's parents at Hasta La Pasta.  It was such a nice dinner.  The last time we all went there together was the night we did the tasting for our wedding.

Christmas Day we opened presents with my parents in the morning.  They are always so generous with their gifts for us.  This year, everyone got us things we can use when we get in the house.  That afternoon, we went to the Konesheck's for lunch and the gift exchange.  Last year we started doing a gift swap between the Konesheck's and the Euers.  It is always fun and nice to see the Euers side of the family.

2011 was a wonderful year for Eric and I.  So many wonderful things happened in our life's.  We can't wait for all the exciting things that 2012 has in store for us!

The Design Center

A couple weeks after we signed papers to build our house, we went to the Perry Design Center to choose our options for the house.  This was such an exciting day!  Eric and I actually agreed on almost everything, so we didn't get in a fight at all!  I figured there would be some disagreements along the way, but it was smooth sailing! After the design center, we met my parents at Pappasitos for a celebratory dinner!  Here are some pictures of the options we chose.

House Hunters: Clear Lake Edition

Eric and I are officially house builders!  I keep saying we are home owners, but Eric and all his "technical terminology" quickly corrects me =)  I wish I could say that our hunt for a house could be summed up into a 30 minute tv episode, but that is not the case!  Eric and I are are too practical/analytical/indecisive to make a quick decision.  We started "just driving around to look at houses" in September, but that quickly took a turn towards us getting pretty serious about looking at houses.  It seems like every weekend we were driving around neighborhoods, going into models, looking at resale and open houses.  Around the end of October, I knew which house I wanted, but Eric was not fully sold yet. He finally reached that point a few weeks later.

After many, many long days of searching, we decided to build a Perry House in Westover Park in League City! We had both liked Perry for a longtime, but never thought that we would be able to build a house. let alone the Perry home that we loved!  The weekend after Thanksgiving, we went and signed papers to officially start building our home!  The day the sold sign went up was the day it felt real.  We have been driving by VERY often...almost obsessively...to see if there is any progress.  We just found out yesterday that the first official day of construction will be December 27th.

We both are in love with the floor plan, the choices of interior and exterior things and our lot.  We are looking forward to filling our home with many memories in the years to come!

Eric's Graduation Day!

August 19th was a day that we had been waiting for since Eric started at UTMB in August 2008...graduation day!  It was everything we had hoped for and more.  A day surrounded by friends and family, celebrating Eric's hard work and many stressful times for the 2 of us.

Eric's graduation took place at the Moody Garden's Convention Center, which was really neat.  We stayed the night at the Moody Garden's Hotel with my parents and Eric's family.  It was such a surreal experience to see Eric walk across the stage.  It really hit me when they called him Dr. Eric Konesheck...that's right, I'm married to a Dr. =)

After dinner, we went to dinner with both our families, and grandparents at Landry's in Galveston.  After dinner, we went back to the hotel, explored and took Tegan and Cainan to get ice cream.  Later that night, we went to The Strand to celebrate some more. We had a great time getting to go out with Eric's siblings and meeting up with some friends he went to school with.  Some of us enjoyed the night more than others...Eric and Darren...

We couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate Eric's hard work and dedication.  Congrats to the UTMB Doctorate of Physical Therapy Class of 2011!!

Other Duties as Assigned

One thing I have learned during my short time as an assistant principal...there are many things that I never thought I would do!

One of those things is have student throw pies at me!  For our school fundraiser, students had the chance to throw pies at staff members if they sold a certain amount of items.  I'm not sure I will even forget the smell of hot, melted whipped cream!

Start of My Wild Ride

After a perfect vacation, Eric and I got back to Galveston on Sunday.  Not going to lie, I REALLY missed my cell phone and Facebook while we were gone.  There is a lot that can happen when you are gone for a week, as I quickly learned when I turned my phone on!  I turned my phone on around 7am and it started coming through with tons of alerts for text messages and voice mails.  As I looked at my voicemail, there was one from my principal, Susan, so I checked that first.  All the said was that she was sure I was concerned about all the phone calls and messages I had gotten that week, so to give her a call.  My first thought was that my class had been dropped at Greene due to low numbers and that I would have to move to another school.  Yes, I know that I automatically go to the extreme! =)

The next voicemail I checked was from one of the people at HR for Clear Creek saying that they knew I was getting back from my cruise today and wanted me to come in for an interview for an Assistant Principal position at 5pm.  "Today? A Sunday? The day before the teachers start school? The day I get back from a cruise?"  These were a few of the thoughts running through my mind.  After a million phone calls, we got off the ship and I headed home to get ready for my interview that afternoon.  Since it was a week before school started, my mind was not in the AP role, it was in the 4th grade teacher role (or the vacation role).  I was able to get myself together by the time of the interview.  I had interviewed twice before for an AP spot, so I really wasn't expecting to get the job, but was thinking it is always good experience to interview again.  I met with a few people from district administration and Kathy, the principal at Ward.  I left the interview feeling good, but still not expecting anything to come of it.  We went to dinner with my parents and got ready for my first day back at school!

Monday morning was great getting to see the Greene teachers after a summer away.  Susan told me to keep my phone close by in case I got a call about another interview.  Sure enough, I got a call by 9:00 to come in for a second interview with the Superintendent!!!  For some reason, I was much less nervous about this interview than the other one with the district staff and Kathy.  The interview with our Superintendent went excellent and I started to realize there was a very good chance I was going to get the job as AP.  Things felt very different this time around than the last.  Tuesday morning, I got the call that changed my life and current plans for the year!  I got a call from HR asking if I would accept the job as AP of Ward Elementary!  The hard part was that I couldn't tell anyone until after the board meeting that night.  Once the word was official that I had gotten the job as Assistant Principal, the phone calls flooded in.  It was a very surreal feeling that everything I had worked for the past 2 years and come true much sooner than I could have ever imagined.  I was honored, shocked, proud, nervous, excited and many more emotions!

Wednesday morning, I started at Ward Elementary as AP!  I got to meet the staff, tell them about myself and see my office.  That afternoon, I went back to Greene and started the long process of cleaning out my room.  It was a very bittersweet experience.  I would not be the teacher and administrator I am today without Greene.  I grew more as a teacher in the past 3 years at Greene than I ever thought possible.  I met wonderful friends and coworkers that supported me through stressful times and grew me into a leader.  For the next few days, Leslie wouldn't even step foot in my room.  We definitely had some separation anxiety =)

Everyone was such a wonderful support that week as I transitioned from one school to another and left the job I had known for 5 years to start a new job.  Towards the end of the week, I kept having to remember that Eric had a huge celebration on Friday....GRADUATION DAY!

Back on the Blogging Wagon

Well, I think it is about time to come out of blogging hiatus! I'm the type of person that I have tried many times to catch-up on the past few months, but I feel like I need to have everything from the past before I can blog about the current events.  Call it what you may, it is my OCD/Type A personality. =)   Last time I really thought about writing was around the first week of August.  We celebrated my mom's 50th birthday and a few days later our new journey began without us even knowing!  there are many things to catch-up on, so I am going to start slowly...

On August 7th, Eric and I set sail on the Carnival Conquest out of Galveston for a 7 day cruise.  This is the 3rd time that we have gotten to go on vacation just the 2 of us and we always have a wonderful time!  This vacation was just what we needed.  We had so much to celebrate since Eric was officially done with school and rotations and had just gotten offered a job a St. John's Sports Medicine that week before.  It was definitely a celebration for him and for the 2 of us making it through the past 3 years.  I love "out of school" Eric!  He is such a different person, less stressed and pays a lot of attention to me =)   This was the first time in a long time that he has truly been stress free.

Our days at see revolved around waking up, eating breakfast, going to the pool, eating lunch, taking a nap, eating dinner and watching comedians for hours on end. Repeat day after day!  The weird thing was that this was the first ship we have been on that we haven't had to fight for chairs at the pool.  No matter what time we went to the pool, there were plenty of chairs.

Our ship docked in Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel.  We didn't get off the ship in Jamaica.  We have been there a few times before and have never really been to interested.  It was nice to be on the ship when most people were off the ship.  Our next stop was Grand Cayman.  We LOVE Grand Cayman!  We have been there many times and always enjoy it.  We took the boat tender to shore and walked around all the stores.  They have very high end stores but also have more affordable stores.  We always like to go to Jimmy Buffets and Guy Harvey.  After walking around for a few hours, we headed back to the ship...can't miss nap time!  Our last stop was Cozumel, which we have also been to many times.  It is unbelievable how much it has grown and changed since the first time we went 13 years ago!  We walked around the stores they have right when you get off the ship and then ate lunch at a restaurant close by.  It was extremely hot, so we didn't last more than a couple hours.

All in all, it was a wonderful trip.  The best part was getting to spend time just the 2 of us and doing whatever we felt like...which was a lot of relaxing!  When we got back on Sunday, all that was on my brain was that I had to start back at school the next day.  Little did I know that after turning on my cell phone for the first time in a week that my life would change!  That's a little teaser for what's to come next... =)

Another Celebration of 50 Years

Both of my parents turned 50 this year, so we have been busy celebrating!  My dad turned 50 on October 11th.  We went out the next weekend to celebrate.  We had such a great time on my mom's brithday, we decided to repeat the ocassion!  We ate dinner at Maggiano's, went shopping around the Galleria area and had dessert at the Dessert Gallery.  My mom gave my dad a Cuisanart single brew coffee maker for his birthday, so we had fun buying accessories and coffee to go with it.  It is hard to believe that my parents are 50...they still seem so young!

Happy 3rd Birthday Cainan!

On September 19th we celebrated Cainan's 3rd birthday.  It is hard to believe that Cainan is only 3 years old...it feels like he has always been a part of our life.  Sometimes we forget that Cainan is only 3, he seems so much older than that!  For his birthday party, he wanted a monkey/golf party.  Heather pulled off this odd combination perfectly!  He had a cake of a sock monkey with a golf club. =)  Cainan was showered with presents that were sports related and could be used outside- he was in heaven!  His favorite gift came from Uncle Darren...a Texas A&M jersey!  He requests to wear it each Saturday for "football day".

No Konesheck get together goes off without a bump in the road, and Cainan's birthday was just the same!  The day before Cainan's party, Heather, Tegan and I went to Target to get some things for the party.  On the Tegan said she felt bad and ended up throwing up before we got to Target.  We chalked it up to the "cheese party" they had at school and thought she had food poisoning.  She continued to throw up into the night.  The day of they party, Cainan threw-up a couple times, but Heather thought it was because he was putting too much food in him mouth.  Turns out this was not the case!  There was a stomach bug running rampant that the kids were nice enough to share with most of the 20 or so people at the party.  Somehow Eric and I were able to escape the bug!

Here are some pictures from the happy times of the party.

New Beginnings

Every year before the first day of school there is excitement and nervousness all rolled into one.  This year is no different.  For the past 5 years, I have welcomed a class, full of excited students, into my room, ready to teach them and see what the year had to offer.  This year comes with new excitement and nervousness as I start at a new school and welcome back over 500 excited students as an Assistant Principal.  Another exciting event for the first year of school is that Tegan will be starting Kindergarten!  I can't believe she will be walking into an elementary school tomorrow to begin her journey through school.  I hope nothing but the best for her and can't wait to see what this year holds for her and she continues to learn and grow as a young lady.
I have tons to catch-up on as the past couple weeks have been life changing for Eric and me.  Everything we have worked for the past  years came together within a couple weeks.  I still cannot believe how blessed I am to have been able to get a job as an Assistant Principal, being 27 years old, at an amazing school!  Here's to another year of teaching, learning and growing!

50 and Fabulous!

Happy 50th birthday Mom!  Today we celebrated my mom's 50th birthday.  We went to eat dinner at Maggiano's.  It was so yummy!  My mom had been there a few months back and wanted to take us all there.  We had yummy peach bellini's and wonderful food.  I was so stuffed!  We then went shopping at a few places around the Galleria.  For dessert, we went to the Dessert Gallery.  They have the best cakes there!  With the weather being as hot as it has been, we decided to not do anything during the day.  We enjoyed some air conditioning!  Hope you had a wonderful birthday mom and I love you!
