Being a Mommy to a Newborn is Hard....

One thing I have learned over the past 9 weeks it that being a mommy to a newborn is hard...

  • There are only 2 nights that I have slept more than a 3-4 hours stretch.

  • Our days mostly consist of change a diaper, feed, play, repeat.

  • I clean more bottles and pump parts than I ever could have imagined.

  • My right shoulder is consistently wet from spit up.

  • It takes me twice as long to get ready each day because I stop after every part to check on Madison.

  • Take a shower-check on Madison-dry my hair-check on Madison-straighten my hair-check on Madison-put on my make-up-check on Madison...

  • I put her pacifier back in her mouth at least 100 times a day (okay...maybe that's an exaggeration...75 times).

  • My house is full of clutter and my floors are always dirty.

  • It takes us an extra 15 minutes to leave the house than it used to, always making sure to have a bottle, plenty of diapers and her pacifier.

  • My washing machine runs on overdrive.  There have also been at least 3 times I have run the washing machine only to forget to put laundry detergent in first.

  • I am constantly picking up socks, hair bows, burp cloths, bibs, pajamas, towels and baby clothes, only to replenish them in each room a few minutes later.

  • Poopy diapers...who knew a little girl could make something so messy and stinky!

  • I question every decision I make on a daily basis. What is best for Madison? Am I going to ruin her by doing _________?

  • My emotions get the best of me and my heart hurts when Madison cries and sticks out her bottom lip. We are working on self soothing...but it's hard on Mommy.

Despite all these things that make motherhood hard...I wouldn't change any of them for the world! I have never been so excited to do laundry, clean bottles and wake up at 2 in the morning. This little girl has changed our lives more than we ever could have imagined.  We love her sweet smiles, cuddles, giggles and excessive bodily fluids.   One little smile from Madison can make all the hard work and stress go away in an instant. She is growing so fast all of a sudden and I don't want to ever forget this special time in the midst of the "daily chores".  Even though being a mommy to a newborn can be hard at times, it is the best job in the world and I am so thankful to have this job to do.

  1. I had to laugh at this post because it's so true. My washer is always running. I literally can't begin to tell you how many times I've washed the same load of laundry in one day because I forgot to put the fabric softener in. Savanna is almost 6 months old and she still loses the pacifier on the regular. I bought a clip and it helps!
